Budget Development & Stewardship

Accountabilities

• Translating the organization's stated strategic priorities into a concrete, itemized draft budget, working directly with whoever holds strategic decision-making authority.
• Setting up and maintaining a budget structure (template, categories, spreadsheet or tool) sized to the organization's actual complexity and existing financial capability.
• Reviewing budget assumptions (revenue, costs, timing) together with the relevant decision-maker(s) and flagging ones that look unrealistic, inconsistent, or undocumented.
• Defining a review process, as lightweight or structured as the organization needs, that lets it update the budget independently as strategy or circumstances change.
• Revising the budget structure and process based on what did or didn't work in previous cycles.
