Set up your finances in the Netherlands with the right combination of providers. For most organisations, Triodos handles the main account; GoDutch adds virtual credit card functionality for team spending.
Our recommendation
This combination gives your organisation a mission-aligned main account with a full Dutch IBAN, plus the flexibility of multiple virtual credit cards for different team members (handy if you have more people doing shopping).
If your organisation does not need credit cards, Triodos alone is sufficient.
Comparison
| Bank | Values ๐ฑ | Limitations โ | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Triodos | โ โ โ Triodos has an explicit sustainable banking mission and consistently ranks top in the 'eerlijke bankwijzer' | Triodos does not offer credit cards. that's why we recommend to use GoDutch next to it. | Triodos currently states the process can take up to 8 weeks, though in our experience approval came through in way sooner (2 weeks) |
| GoDutch | โ GoDutch contributes to land restoration and supports charities , but your funds are ultimately held by BNP Paribas (via Swan), a large conventional bank with no particular sustainability mission | GoDutch does not support multiple budget approvers. For organisations where financial governance requires separate approval levels, factor this in before signing up.GoDutch is not currently available outside the European Economic Area (EEA). | Takes about 2 days |
What we do not recommend
We do not recommend Bunq, because:
- Our experience with onboarding and support has been consistently more cumbersome than the alternatives.
- For audit purposes it is good to have different approval levels, and Bunq doesn't currently support that.
